Preparing for Your Surgery

As you prepare for surgery, there are many things you may want to consider. We have included information that may be helpful as you prepare for your surgery. Some of those questions might include:

• Pre-operative visit to your primary care physician
You should have an appointment in your medical or primary care physician’s office five to seven days before your surgery. This will serve as the physical exam required to ensure you can have surgery and may include laboratory tests, x-rays, and an EKG.

• When to stop medications
Sevens days before surgery stop all medications containing aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin, Motrin, Naproxen, etc. These medications may cause increased bleeding. If you are on Coumadin, you will need special instructions from your doctor who prescribed it. Continue taking your regular medications.
