Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center has been selected as a research site for the ATTRACT Study. The ATTRACT Study is a National Institute of Health (NIH) funded protocol through The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). Dr. Suresh Vedantham at Washington University in St. Louis, MO is the lead Principal Investigator. Dr. Eric Vander Woude and Dr. Rahul Razdan are the sub-investigators at Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center. The study is enrolling 692 patients with symptomatic proximal deep vein thrombosis (DVT) that involves the iliac, common femoral, and or femoral vein. Subjects will be randomized to either receive standard treatment along with the new clot-busting treatment for their DVT known as Pharmacomechanical Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis (PCDT) or standard treatment alone. Standard treatment consists of blood-thinning medication and the use of elastic compression stockings. Patients will be enrolled over 2 to 3 years in 30 to 50 U.S. hospitals and followed for 2 years. Clinical outcomes will be rigorously assessed to answer 5 key questions:
