Group
For the person just diagnosed with diabetes or the person who needs better control of their
blood sugar.
Two sessions, 3 hours each, follow-up support is included.

Topics:

  • What diabetes is, causes, symptoms and treatment options
  • How diabetes medications work
  • The importance of regular exercise
  • Meal planning and carbohydrate counting
  • Blood testing
  • Managing meals, exercise and blood testing
  • How complications develop and how to prevent or control
  • Blood glucose monitors
  •

Individual
For people with special needs such as vision or hearing impairments, language or cultural barriers or other challenges.
Content of the class is the same as the group diabetes class.

Gestational (Pregnancy) Diabetes
For the pregnant woman diagnosed with diabetes during her pregnancy, we provide:
  • Education about gestational diabetes
  • Meal planning
  • Exercise
  • Blood glucose monitoring, if needed
