Providing Trusted Information on Cancer

At five libraries across the state of Nebraska, a Cancer Resource Corner is available to community members. It provides a collection of current cancer information from high-quality, reliable sources. The program, which began in 2011, is facilitated through the NCCCP program and comprises Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Saint Francis Medical Center in Grand Island and Nebraska Cancer Coalition (NC2).

The foundation of the Cancer Resource Corner is a web page, http://necancer.org/, hosted by NC2. The website provides links to cancer resources on a variety of topics and includes a “Guide to Healthy Web Surfing”. In addition to a designated website, the Cancer Resource Corner also contains a collection of printed references for library use. Patients may also order their own copies, which are free in most cases.   The American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Lance Armstrong Foundation publish the majority of the resources that can be found in the Cancer Resource Corner.
