|Preparing for Breast Cancer Surgery|
Saint Elizabeth Cancer Institute understands that a diagnosis of breast cancer can be very overwhelming. Our team is driven to make the breast cancer journey as easy as possible for patients. We believe knowledge is power. We want our patients to feel more in control by providing them with information and resources.
That was the driving force behind the new class that we just added – Preparing for Breast Cancer Surgery. The class, which is taught by experienced oncology nurses, helps women learn what to expect before and after surgery, so they can have a positive experience in the hospital and at home.
One of the goals of the class is to help eliminate some of our patients’ concerns before they have surgery. Karen Pribnow RN, MSN, OCN, cancer nurse navigator at Saint Elizabeth, is one team member that teaches the class. “We have received very positive feedback on the class. We have found that the class helps reduce the patient’s stress level by giving them a better understanding of what to expect throughout the treatment process,” shares Pribnow.
Other topics that are discussed in the class include the importance of exercise, understanding the pathology report, insurance information and support resources that are available in the community. The class meets weekly on Wednesday at Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center.
The class is FREE and open to patients of Saint Elizabeth. Attendees are welcome to bring a family member or friend. Preregistration is required through the CARE office at 402-219-7123.
