Pelvic Prolapse/Urinary Incontinence
At Physicians for Women we understand the frustration you may be experiencing when everyday activities of picking up your children or grandchildren, laughing, or even a sneeze or cough can cause you to leak urine. You may be experiencing a loosening of the support muscles and tissues in the pelvic area. Childbearing could have been a cause of pelvic prolapse. There are various ranges of prolapse: first degree in which the uterine opening is about halfway down into the vagina, second degree where the cervix or leading edge of the uterus has moved to the vaginal opening and in third degree where the cervix and uterus protrude past the vaginal opening. A loosening, vaginal wall weakness such as a cystocele, rectocele, or urethrocele, can lead to symptoms such as urinary incontinence (unintentional loss of urine), pelvic heaviness, and impaired sexual performance.
Physicians for Women providers are specialists offering several different treatment options for pelvic prolapse and urinary incontinence. Our team of all female providers understands your situation and will help you by taking the time to assess your individual needs, diagnose, and develop the right treatment plan for you.
