Hysterectomy Options
Hysterectomy is one of the most common surgical procedures among women. Physicians for Women GYN specialists provide options with the latest surgical techniques available for women including minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery. We will work with you on the best option available for your medical condition. Several of these hysterectomy options include:
- A partial hysterectomy is a surgical procedure that removes just the uterus.
- Total hysterectomy removes the uterus and cervix. A total hysterectomy can also include removal of the uterus, cervix, ovaries and fallopian tubes.
- Abdominal hysterectomy is a surgical procedure that removes your uterus through an incision in your lower abdomen. Sometimes a hysterectomy includes removal of one or both ovaries and fallopian tubes.
- Vaginal Hysterectomy can also be performed through an incision in the vagina, or by a laparoscopic or robotic surgical approach — which uses laparoscopic instruments passed through very small abdominal incisions. Abdominal hysterectomy may be recommended over other surgical approaches if you have a large uterus or if your doctor wants to check other pelvic organs for signs of disease.
