CHOOSING A HEALTH CARE PROVIDER FOR YOUR NEW BABY

Selecting a health care provider for your baby is an important decision.  After all, this is a relationship that lasts from infancy to adulthood

Pediatricians are trained to provide comprehensive care for children. They spend as much as 3 to 6 years in specialized pediatric training after medical school. That equals up to 24 times more training in the care of children than other physicians who generally receive an average of 3 additional months of pediatric training after medical school. (American Academy of Pediatrics, 1998).  A pediatrician is likely to care for the child’s medical needs for years, including seeing your baby through immunizations, fevers, colds, rashes and school physicals.

When choosing a health care provider for your baby, the first thing you should do is check with your insurance company’s provider list.  Choosing a health care provider who is not covered by your health plan could mean out-of-pocket expenses.
