The Saint Elizabeth Bariatric (surgical weight loss) Center---is proud to be approved by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) as a Center of Excellence.

The ASMBS is the largest society in the world dedicated exclusively to bariatric surgery.  This award signifies that our Bariatric Center helps reduce the significant health risks associated with obesity, in a number of ways, including having a dedicated multi-disciplinary bariatric team that incorporates surgeons, nutritionists, psychologists and exercise physiologists and that we report long-term outcomes and submit to an on-site inspection to verify the information.

More than 700 weight loss surgeries have been performed at Saint Elizabeth since 2002.  Our program participates in national benchmarking and follows established standards to ensure patients receive excellent preparation prior to surgery, the latest surgical techniques, and follow up after this life changing event. Unlike other surgical procedures, weight loss surgery requires long term support and follow up with the medical team. We also continue our relationship without patient through a support group.

The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) is the largest society for this specialty in the world. Founded in 1983, foremost American surgeons have formed the society's leadership and have established an excellent organization with educational and support programs for surgeons and allied health professionals. The purpose of the society is to advance the art and science of bariatric surgery by continued encouragement of its members to: pursue investigations in both the clinic and the laboratory; interchange ideas, information and experience pertaining to bariatric surgery; promote guidelines for ethical patient selection and care; develop educational programs for physicians, paramedical persons, and lay people and promote outcome studies and quality assurance.
