Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center is feeling a little like Olympic Super Stars ---having earned THREE "Golds" or Gold Seals of Approval from the distinguished national certifying organization for more than 17,000 hospitals and healthcare systems, the Joint Commission.

Gold Seals number one and two: Adding to the Olympic flavor Saint Elizabeth learned they are the first hospital in the US to have earned Gold Seal certification in BOTH High Risk Neonatal (newborn intensive care) and High Risk Pregnancy certifications. Their Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) offers specialized high level care for newborns with medical challenges. Their High Risk Pregnancy unit is for pregnant moms with chronic conditions or newly developed serious medical conditions placing mom or baby at risk for acute problems before, during or after birth.

Gold Seal number three: Saint Elizabeth earned Gold Seal certification for their Stroke program, the second consecutive Gold Seal award for this program. Saint Elizabeth is classified as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission for providing excellent, consistence care and high-quality patient outcomes when compared with national leaders. This includes rapid diagnoses and treatments.

The Joint Commission awards Gold Seals when highly-specialized areas demonstrate that their medical teams collaborate at all stages of treatment using the most advanced research and technology.  The Gold Seal is awarded for a two-year period.
