Who is Helped by Donations

Newborn babies, young children, moms-to-be, cancer patients, stroke and heart victims, adults of all ages, entire families, and, in fact, every patient at Saint Elizabeth benefits in at least some small way from the wonderful, generous donations from our community. Here are some stories that can serve as examples of people who were helped recently.

Helping keep kids safe
Each year, Saint Elizabeth provides approximately 720 safe seat inspections of which 60% are provided to low-income families. These car seat safety programs are made possible by donations from generous and caring people like you!

Helping Newborns
“He just fell in love with taking care of kids,” said Linda Shriner of her late husband Hal, Dr. Harlan Shriner, as many others knew him. In his name she donated a new portable overhead bili light and a pulse oximetry meter to be used in the Saint Elizabeth newborn intensive care unit (NICU), the nursery, and pediatric care area. “I feel the gift will continue what he loved doing – caring for children,” Linda tells us.

Roshan Hassan, 2, is getting an infant car seat fitted to her weight and height by Helen Kampfe, a certified car seat safety technician and instructor at Saint Elizabeth.

Helping with meds
Dick Gloe was a very talented businessman who was well-known for the gold leaf restoration and sign work he did inside the state capitol and other prominent Lincoln buildings and many other endeavors.  During Dick’s latest illness he and his wife became overwhelmed by the ever-growing array of treatments and medications. Saint Elizabeth helped them cover the expense of the medications and in gracious gratitude, later upon Dick’s death, his family dedicated his memorial to help others in need at Saint Elizabeth.

Toys bring calm and joy
Saint Elizabeth is delighted when toys are donated to help calm fears in our smallest patients and family members. Over Christmas, the Brestel family held a toy collect-a-thon in their son’s name and enough toys were donated to overflow any Christmas tree! But each was special to a child in the course of the following 12 months.

Healing environment
We at Saint Elizabeth are committed to healing in mind, body, and spirit. Research supports our Healing Environment Initiative. A number of donors have graciously helped us expand these healing environment efforts, including donating such things as a welcoming water feature, a timeless and warming fireplace, soothing Baby Grand Piano, and many more incredible areas that support our mission and help our patients.
